Tri-Tronics Mark II Smart Eye Sensors Overview

Tri-Tronics is a manufacturer of photoelectric sensors, fiber-optics, control modules, and accessories.  Tri-Tronics is located in Tampa, Florida, and has been in business since 1954.  Their product line is very diverse in functionality, from fully-featured products to cost-effective products with no frills.  While some of Tri-Tronics products are for general purpose, they have many products dedicated for specific applications.  Excel Automation LLC, and Eagle Sensors and Controls (a division of Excel Automation), have both been Authorized Distributors for Tri-Tronics for over 30 years each.

One of the most popular Tri-Tronics products is the Mark-2 Smart-Eye sensor.  It was introduced in 1995, as an upgrade to the original, classic Smart-Eye.  With that introduction of the Mark-2, not only were several features upgraded, but most importantly, the performance was significantly improved.

Some of the new features include quick-disconnect on all models, dual outputs (NPN & PNP), a selectable light/dark switch, and an visual LED indicator of how advanced the adjustment is into the extended range of the product.

The most significant upgrades were in performance, specifically response time and resolution.  All sensors have a 10 micro-second response time, independent of offset adjustment.  The resolution was enhanced by an algorithm that integrates offset adjustment with LED intensity, to substantially extend the sensor ability to operate where classic Smart-Eye models and competitive models would be in saturation.

The combination of both the features and the performance upgrades make the Tri-Tronics Mark-2 Smart-Eye photoelectric sensor a smart choice for the most challenging applications.

The Tri-Tronics Mark-2 Smart-Eye photoelectric sensor is available with infra-red (IR), visible red, white, blue, and green LED light sources.  All models of the Mark-2 Smart-Eye sensor utilize an interchangeable optical block system, so any basic model in operate in any photo-electric mode merely by changing the optical block.  The optical blocks include long range prox, short range prox, convergent beam/fixed focal-point, retro-reflective, and fiber-optic.  The fiber-optic mode allows the same sensor to work with fiber-optic cables in fiber-optic prox or fiber-optic through-beam modes.
