Hyde Park Virtu Series overview document

Hyde Park is a manufacturer of ultra-sonic sensors and their accessories.   The company was founded in 1958, and now has likely the most complete, most sophisticated line of ultra-sonics sensors with the functionality uncommon in the industry.

The basic form of products that Hyde Park offers is proximity mode, and through-beam mode.  Proximity mode verifies target present by a return echo from the target itselt, or in the background mode, absence of a return echo from the background.  Through-beam mode is using a separate sender and separate receiver, and the target is detected by the loss of the signal reaching the receiver.  Both modes have their advantages and trade-offs.  For almost every proximity mode sensor Hyde Park offers, there is a corresponding through-beam model of the same physical form.   Hyde Park is located in Dayton, OH.

The newest family of Hyde Park sensors is the Virtu Series.  It is offered in the proximity mode form only, and consists of 2 basic models with 20 inches max range, and a newer addition with 1 meter max range.

All Hyde Park Virtu Series models are offered with either discrete/on-off output, or with analog output.  The analog output models are either 0-10v or 4-20 ma, by part number.

The Hyde Park Virtu Series in the lowest-cost family, with a trade-off of precision in holding its near and far limits, being not as precise as the other Hyde Park proximity series models at higher cost.

The Hyde Park Virtu Series is distinguished as having no adjustments on the sensor body, but the sensor has adjustable near and far limits via an in-line, quick-disconnect, removable teach push-button.  For initial set-up of near and far limits, the push-button is inserted into the line, limits taught, and then typically removed afterwards.  In this manner, the sensor limits can be initially installed, or changed to meet application needs, but the ability to that change is only by the one who has the push-button. Only the quick-disconnect sensor models directly connect to the optional push-button programming switch.

The shorter range Hyde Park Virtu models are either 18 mm diameter or a dual-mount, and the longer 1 meter range models are 30 mm diameter.  All models are single output, either NPN or PNP, by part number.

The internal memory of the Hyde Park Virtu series stores the programmed settings, so it is unaffected by power removal, or power loss.
