Leuze newest product introduction is the unique LBK Series Safety Radar Sensor. It detects motion of persons or objects in the sensing range of up to 4 meters (13.1 feet). Since the Leuze LBK Series senses motion only, stationary objects in its field of view are ignored. Unlike scanning lasers for guarding areas, the Leuze LBK Series uses the non-visible spectrum of radar, is rated IP-67, and therefore immune to dust, dirt, and other airborne contaminants, as well as colors/reflectivity of the target material, that may impact sensing range or reliability. Different radiation angles are possible in both the vertical and horizontal planes. The small product size of 6.5 x 5.0 x 2.1 inches can fit in space-constrained areas and has an optional protective shroud if desired.
As a Safety Radar Sensor for guarding areas, it may be a viable physical and cost-effective alternative to individual light curtains, safety mats, safety contact bars. These legacy devices provide protection only for either interruption of a light beam or physical contact and need to be installed in every physical position that needs guarding, often requiring multiple units, custom sizes, or extensive plumbing to provide complete protection. Where light curtains are typically limited to sensing only when the person or object is within close proximity to the danger of the machine, the Leuze LBK Safety Rada Sensor senses the motion well before the person or object is endangered by the machine. Alignment of conventional light curtains must be addressed during installation and maintained over the life of the product. The Leuze LBK series is not a device that requires critical alignment.

Upon entry into the protected area, the machine is switched to a safe state, and if a person is present, the machine is prevented from restarting. Static objects may be present in the protected area. The systems can be used in safety applications up to PL d / SIL 2.
