Pfannenberg Filter-Fans Series Overview

Pfannenberg is a manufacturer of products for thermal management of electrical enclosures.  In business for over 60 years, their products groups are filter/fans, air conditioners/cooling units, air-air heat exchangers, air-water heat exchangers, water-water heat exchangers, chillers, heaters, thermostats and hygrostats.  These products range from circulating filtered ambient air though the enclosure, to closed-loop circulation of cooled interior air.  Pfannenberg heaters and respective controls are to mitigate the damaging impact of high humidity on critical electrical products within the enclosure.  Pfannenberg offers both new units, as well as replacement parts for older, existing units.

One of Prannenberg’s simplest, and lowest-cost product groups, is their PF Series, introduced in 1958.  This consists of two separate components, both of which are required to be a complete system, and must be ordered separately.  The Pfannenber Filter/Fan component consists of a fan with an integral filter, and the corresponding component is a Pfannenberg Exhaust Filter.  The Filter/Fan component blows air into the enclosure, and should be mounted in the lower portion of the enclosure.  The Exhaust Filter component is a filter that is mounted on the opposite, upper portion of the enclosure.  Together, the two components take ambient air from outside the enclosure, filter it, and allow for its exit out of the enclosure. Variations of this installation with multiple components may be used if required or preferred.  The Pfannenberg Exhaust Filter can be replaced with a reverse flow Filter/Fan component if even higher air flow rates are needed.  In this manner, air is forced into  the enclosure, and exhausted out of the enclosure, both with the aid of a fan.

Numerous sizes of the Pfannenber PF Series Filter/Fan units are available, generally ranging from 4.3 x 4.3 inches up to 12.6 x 12.6 inches, corresponding to system air flow rates of from 11 CFM up to 368 CFM.  Sealing integrity is Nema 12.  Pfannenberg offers their optional FLZ Series Thermostats, if the operation of the PF Series Filter/Fan product should only be activated above a enclosure set-point temperature.

The Pfannenberg Filter/Fan Series should be used only when the ambient air is relatively clean, and the desired temperature of the enclosure interior is higher than the temperature of the ambient air outside the enclosure.

Excel Automation is an Authorized Pfannenberg Distributor.  We have been in business for 30 years.  Give us a call for your applications that require thermal management of electrical enclosures.  We would appreciate the opportunity.
