Inductive proximity sensors use electromagnetic energy to create an oscillating magnetic field. When a metallic object approaches the sensor, eddy currents are made in the metal, which drains power from the magnetic field. The sensor detects this change in the magnetic field and outputs a signal. Inductive proximity sensors often monitor or determine the position, movement, or distance of metallic objects. They are also used in security-related applications and for product counting and sorting.
