Product Description
The RH-P encoder, also known as a Pulse Position Indicator (PPI), generates tracking pulses for web applications, and in particular for material handling sortation applications when used with barcode laser scanners or CCD vision systems. The number of counts per each revolution of the wheel is selectable by setting configuration switches. 12″ or 30cm circumference measuring wheels ride directly on the conveyor belt or web eliminating any slippage problems typicaly encountered with shaft encoders. With its double wheel construction, the encoder is self-aligning when allowed to pivot freely from its integral arm. The encoder’s weight is sufficient to maintain contact when mounted above the moving material. For mounting below the belt use MB-UB1 underbelt mounting accessory.
The encoder generates up to 3 square wave outputs depending on factory installed program and options. DIP switch positons set at installation time configure the encoder according to the facotry installed program. See “Currently Available Programs”
The types of outputs based on shaft rotation are as follows:
Pulse Output: A Single output (A) with a specific number of counts per revolution (cpr) of the shaft; Dual outputs (A and B) with two independent outputs and the cpr on A can be different than the cpr on B; or Triple outputs (A, B, and C) with three independent outputs.
Quadrature: Two pulse outputs, A and B, have the same cpr and are in quadrature relation to each other (A leads B by 90 for clockwise rotation as viewed from shaft end farthest from connector). Indicates distance and direction to any control device that accepts quadrature inputs.
Zero Marker Output: Zero reference or index pulse on output Z occurring once per revolution.
Direction Output: Indicates the direction of shaft rotation.
Minimum Speed Output: Indicates when the shaft exceeds a predetermined revolutions per minute (rpm).
Anti-Jitter feature: Designed for conveyor and web systems requiring continuous and accurate measurement of the web’s movement even if the system must be stopped and restarted without reset. When the web stops, and if there is sufficient vibration or back-and-forth movement, then the encoder output could oscillate, appearing as if the web were actually moving. Anti-jitter eliminates this condition by significantly increasing the pulse hysteresis.
