Why do you need max OD?

How often do you get asked – “what’s the wire OD…”

It probably does not come up too often, but when it does, it takes too much time to get the answer.  It should be simple…quick google search of the wire manufacturer website, find the wire dimension table and report OD.

Not so fast, manufacturers normally report nominal OD, not max OD and not every wire is the same.  Simply providing nominal wire diameter to your customer may come back to bite you – especially when the relied upon information causes the wire to get stuck in a complex/expensive tool.
